FoAM’s publications range from books, articles and conference papers to DVDs and audiovisual releases. We see our publications as lasting documents of our temporary activities. They provide a comprehensive way to situate our works in the contemporary cultural, scientific, technological and social context. We write and design publications either as a part of research projects, as documentation of our public activities, or as creative works. The publications are meant for people who want to scratch underneath the surface of FoAM, to understand what motivates and inspires us, as well as how we do things. They are used by FoAM and others to inspire and instruct related works and people, avoiding too many occurrences of reinventing wheels. Some of FoAM’s titles are self-published, although the majority are individual contributions in larger international publications. This allows our works to be seen in various contexts and reach more people. In a way, the publications are a fertile compost that remains after a project, an event, or a workshop has ceased to exist. A touch of permanence in an otherwise dynamic organisation.
